Homemade Greek Soy Yoghurt Is Pretty Easy

Simple recipe:

  • 2 probiotic pills for every cup soy milk. Make sure the probiotics have live cultures. Preferably the powdered ones or you would have to crush the solid tablets.
  • Cup measured soy milk
  • Sanitized glass container
  • A way to incubate. Either a yoghurt maker or an oven turned off with just the light on and sit overnight.

With my yoghurt maker from Aldi there is a straining basket and I needed it because there was a lot of liquid to seperate. I had natural separation of yoghurt and whey. I used probiotic pills per 1 cup store bought soy milk. Just like in other tutorials, I didn’t do anything special and did my first batch over 15hrs.

Results were a tangy but nice soy yoghurt. first time I had soy yoghurt was in the 90s when I was a kid and it tasted like vomit. It was the worst first experience for soy yoghurt, and I haven’t tried it since. Then I saw a recipe for it and I thought maybe if I made my own it wouldn’t be so bad. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not what I was expecting but it’s not bad. I would like to retry this with fresh homemade soy milk. Years ago I discovered that you can pressure cook soy milk to speed up the process. Works great. I might try it out. Though I might not. Vitasoy has Greek soy yoghurt. I need to try it. Things have changed a lot in the last 20 years since I tried soy yoghurt. But it’s always nice to know that I can make some myself at a fraction of the cost even if using probiotics as a starter culture.
