Simple Toast and Fruit Breakfast

Now that baby’s teething has settled and his gag reflex has calmed he has been doing well with finger foods again. As we are gluten free now which has improved his sleeping and eliminated him screaming in pain all night long it made me think hard about toast. Readily available gluten free bread where I live tends to be gummy which can be a choking hazard which with all his increased gagging lately I wanted to avoid. They just brought out a gluten free wholemeal by the brand Helgas where I live. Baby loves it! He always wants more and he will actually eat it rather than play with it. However he still plays with banana rather than eating it which is normal. I feed him a thick slice and let him play with other slices. Yesterday he had banana and natural yoghurt with gluten free toast. He did well and ate most of it. He normally likes the yoghurt but with his teething lately he found it offensive.

A lot of things he normally enjoys he hasn’t been interested. All normal but it got me thinking he was possibly ready for toast and the chewing on toast might help him either cut his new teeth or give him the satisfaction of chewing and relieve some irritation. I happened to be right. On other bad days the best thing was a nice cold watermelon slice. As I live in Australia it is Spring here now so we now have wonderful fresh watermelon. It can be really useful when a baby is teething and like mine refuses to use a teether toy. The cold helps refresh and the juice hydrates which can be important with all the drooling.

Above is his new food tray by the brand Cub from Coles. It’s quite suitable for his dinner and lunches. Today’s breakfast when he is ready will be some more plain with no butter toast avocado and strawberry slices. He won’t eat it all but he will get through most of it. What he doesn’t eat I’ll probably eat. There’s a chance he will eat it all as with his recent teething he was eating less than normal and now he is eating well as his appetite has come back and his mouth is less irritated.

There’s a lot of good breakfast ideas on YouTube if your stuck for ideas. Definitely worth looking.
