Pear and Peas Purée

I will add a story post photo later today.

Pear and peas purée gets the bowls moving naturally. Every now and then my baby has off days where he isn’t constipated but he doesn’t poop for two or even three days. If your baby is blocked up it’s important to keep them hydrated. But my baby has me second guessing or wondering is it a blockage or does he need fibre?

Certain foods can get things moving. To be on the safe side I will give him one small serve of pea purée. Usually baby peas because they’re naturally sweet and full of essential vitamins. Today they had regular peas and my little fella needs to have a movement. He is gassy and unhappy and hasn’t had a movement in a while. He is well hydrated and mostly happy (he is teething). Adding pear to the peas will add sweetness and help get things moving. But never over do it. I like to freeze small single serve batches of these specifically to use as a way of keeping his movements comfortable. The effects are powerful so he only gets it when needed or if he has a pouch food with dairy or cornstarch. This means cheddar cauliflower or any custards. He doesn’t get served these very often.

It’s not often my baby needs these loosening purées but now and then he does. He was recently introduced to some wheat in baby food. It might be that the wheat has caused some constipation or he just simply isn’t regular for some reason. Usually he has some pear and prune Rafferty’s Garden purée and all is well. It’s a very gentle mix. Not to much not to little and helps keep baby regular. But once in a while, usually a new food doesn’t agree with baby’s tummy and he needs some homemade pea purée to get things back on track. So far he hasn’t been constipated. He just has off days then suddenly he is regular and a good consistency. But it’s never good for babies to go days without pooping. But it happens. There’s never a perfect regime. There’s always going to be something.

He isn’t a huge fan of peas but he will eat it. He only needs a little and he will only eat a little amount. So if he is still hungry he gets a small serve of regular store pouch purée on the side. The other thing I have had to consider is he has two small bottom teeth and uses rusks now. This can cause binding. He was switched to Bubs Organic which as more rice in it and he tolerates them better. As well as one other brand. I forget the name. Considering this I now have to consider how much rusks he is taking in and adding fruit purée to keep things good.

Now and then I need to reduce the intensity of the effects of peas. Best way to do that is to pair it with fibre. Either baby rice porridge or simply adding potatoes. If you don’t like store bought premade porridge you can always add you own and make it yourself. You just need to make sure it is smooth enough.

There are a lot of great YouTube videos for baby food recipes. I watched a few for ideas. Currently I simply do some research with my baby’s age in mind or in the search and go from there. I also always look up what can be binding and what is loosening, nitrates and what foods are better for what age. N

ot passing judgment but I have some memories of friends first babies and their lack of knowledge on the matter and when I suggested things when I used to know about it they were full of fear which is understandable. I don’t want to be fearful or worried. After me having almost 13yrs infertility I had forgotten a lot about foods and reactions so I am at square one with learning about food again and being careful. But babies like adults have off days. Sometimes you can do everything right and nothing happens. Then everything is back to normal but it helps to keep track and a good diary.

Personally I am enjoying making baby food and even more so when he enjoys it. I use a NutriBullet and an immersion blender. If I am making big batches and I need extreme smooth purée I use my Breville Boss Blender. Literally able to liquify corn skins. As I experiment I have decided to post each concoction and recipe on here and if I make enough, I might even turn it into a recipe book. Making books is a hobby of mine. If I make it I will likely make it free for others to download.

Currently I am slowly introducing more homemade food than store bought as his body begins to demand more satisfaction and nutrients. So as that increases so will my blog food posts. Any questions please leave a comment!
